HD/premium content must be encrypted to protect from pirating. The content encryption occurs at the source and must be decrypted by either the TV or a set-top box in order to display the content on the screen. Samsung has its own DRM technology, LYNK DRM, which comes embedded in all Samsung Hospitality TVs.
b-LAN is a chip embedded in Samsung HDTVs that allows a SONIFI interactive solution to be delivered over coaxial cable without additional external hardware (box) required. It supports the two-way communication required for features such as pay-per-view. b-LAN is available in 478 series only; Smart TVs do not require b-LAN chip since they are already IP-connected.
